Neal Patrick Howland, age 69, died in his home in Joliet on April 2, 2024. He attended Joliet East High School and worked in various places over the years. He was a multi-sport varsity athlete in football and track and loved sports. He loved R & B (or soul music, as it was called) of his era and had an amazing memory and could recall people and sports information in impressive detail.
Neal was born on December 14, 1954, to the parents Milton and Dorothy Howland, as one of 9 brothers and sisters. He is preceded by his parents and brothers Edward (Eddie), Michael (Mike), Terrence (Terry), and Cedric and elder sister Barbara (Barb). He is survived by sisters Sylvia Craig and Trudi Howland and brother Dennis Howland and their children, spouses, and many friends.
Neal was single and dearly regarded by family and friends with his fun smile, disposition, and gentle spirit. He was reclusive and shy but well remembered for his natural Howland sense of care for others and genuineness. He lived at Joshua Arms Senior Residence nearby his sister Trudi Howland.
