Karen Abbott-Payne, 66 of Carpentersville passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva, IL.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 22 at Range Funeral Home, Joliet, IL from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
Burial will be in Momence Cemetery, Momence IL.
Karen was born on April 30, 1955 in Chicago, IL. Karen was born to Velma Coppage and John W. Abbott. Karen attended Momence High School. Karen also attended Lewis University in Romeoville, IL where she graduated with a Bachelors’ Degree in Business Management. Karen worked at Lucent Technology from 1982 until the early 2000’s as a Purchasing Agent. She was a dedicated mother to her two sons, David and Brandon. Karen was a people person and easily met people. She had a love for traveling and trying new restaurants.
Karen leaves to cherish her memory, fiancé Byron Scurry of Carpentersville, IL; two sons David Dacosta of Chicago, IL, Brandon Payne of Waukegan, IL; five sisters Patricia Abbott of Baltimore, Maryland, Felicia Acevedo of Naperville, IL, Valerie Williamson of Joliet, IL, Oachia (Tyrone) Irvin of Bourbonnais, IL, Velma Fairbarin of Joliet, sister-in-law Ida Abbott of Joliet, IL; five brothers John Abbott of Joliet, IL, Ray (Ofelia) Abbott of Murrieta, California, Chester (Nancy) Patterson of Plainfield, IL, Richard Patterson of California, brother-in-law Mark Payne of Indiana; 8 nieces, 9 nephews, 4 great nephews and 2 great nieces and many great-great nieces and nephews; lifelong special friends Bertha Ford, Carmen Laura and Mary Johnson.
Karen was preceded in death by her mother Velma Patterson-Green, her husband Robert Payne, brother Robert Abbott, niece Oachia Abbott, sister-in-law Mattie Abbott, Grandmother Rosie Jones and sister Rosalie Patterson.
