Charles Washington Obituary

Charles Washington of Lockport, Illinois was born on September 21, 1952 to Mary and Charlie Washington in Natchez, Mississippi. He was the 3rd child of six children. Charles entered into eternity on Sunday, July 2, 2023.

Charles attended and graduated from High School in Natchez, Mississippi. He relocated to Joliet, Illinois in 1972 where he met the love of his life, Yvonne Washington. They united in Holy Matrimony in 1973, and to this union, three children were born, Marshall, Darnell, and Jacquelynn.

Charles began his employment at PQ Corporation in 1972 and was a dedicated employee until his retirement in 2014.

Charles accepted Christ as his savior and joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. David G. Latimore.

Charles was an avid sportsman; he loved football and his favorite team was, the Cowboys; he was a fisherman, hunter and gun collector. His favorite pastime was traveling with his wife and spending quality time with his family.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Charlie Washington; his son, Darnell Washington; two brothers, Thomas (Betty) Washington and Major (Brenda) Washington; brothers-in-law, Willie Earl Washington and Purcel Washington; and his great nephew, Angelo Shelby, and nephew, Montray Logan.

Charles leaves to cherish his memories; his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Yvonne Washington; son, Marshall Washington and daughter, Jacquelynn Washington; three grandchildren, Darnell Washington II, Cory Hare and Cierra Smith; two brothers, Michael Washington and Steven Washington; sister, Ruth Washington; goddaughter, Jamaya Crowder; sisters-in-law, Betty Washington, Barbara (Quincy– deceased) Shelby and Brenda Washington; brother-in-law, Kirby Washington of Fall River, MA; special childhood friend, David Ford; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends,
